Y35 Mag Issue No. 13
The Y35 Crew: For the first time in Y35’s history, the curator team comes together to present their own images and thoughts in the same edition. The film collective on Instagram (@y35mag) is composed of top-tier talents including Viki Flores (Canada), Marija Micic (Serbia), Dante Ruscitti (Colorado), Tory Pourian (Colorado), Trevor Ogg (Colorado), and Julia Cardoso (Colorado). While the crew also includes Bobby Flores (Minnesota), he had the chance to feature his work in Y35’s December issue, and therefore does not make an appearance this time around. The team’s online presence echos the same philosophies and goals as the magazine: the love for analog and the desire to support others who share the same intense passion for the craft. Y35 is a tight-knit family of sorts that builds off of each other and elevates one another’s game.
In this issue, Viki recounts the highlight of her summer and offers a delightful narration to accompany her images, which leaves you itching for the chance to travel up to British Columbia. From visiting the fair, taking peaceful walks through botanical gardens, and embarking on breathtaking hikes, her section makes you feel as if you’re right there with her throughout the entire five-day trip. Marija Micic discusses life in Serbia through an interview with Y35 Mag Founder, Dante Ruscitti, and really opens up, allowing her spirit to flow throughout the pages of this edition. She has a boundless skillset, boasting many different types of emotions and scenes captured on film. Her words and wisdom, as well as her visions and images, are sure to motivate any reader looking for a reason to create art. Following the interview, Dante discusses winter doldrums, social media, and ultimately provides theories and conjecture on what it means to actually be “good” at something. Dante’s section is brimming, once again, with his signature neon shots, and also exhibits his latest work from the end of 2021.
Continuing on in this booming issue, Tory puts on a clinic with her masterful landscape shots- images that loudly proclaim her deep affection for nature. To provide context to her work, she briefly discusses her background and the story behind her fondness for film. Next up is Trevor Ogg, who displays 2021 through his eyes as he hopped around Alabama, California, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas. The images he creates have a very authentic and distinct feel to them- they are raw, yet refined. To wrap up this monumental volume of Y35’s offerings, Julia Cardoso presents some of her most cherished images from the past year. Her feature is not just visually stunning, though; her words are just as brilliant as her images. She paints an intimate, vulnerable story reflecting on her past and looks ahead into the future with a newfound confidence and hunger for progress.
